Field Inspector – BOE

TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY CENTER, INC.
Atlanta, GA Area
Minimum Salary: $ 63,380
Salary Grade: 7

Primary Duties:

Provide and implement Hazardous Materials Quality Control and Inspections to assure carrier, shipper and tank car facility compliance with hazardous materials/dangerous commodities regulations of the United States and Canada, and the applicable AAR specifications. Educate/train carrier and shipping personnel as to the safe practices for handling hazardous materials. The inspector will provide emergency response training for public responders as well as carrier and shipping personnel. Assist rail carriers in mitigating hazardous materials accidents or product releases. Inspector will perform rail yard inspections to assess compliance of DOT/TDG regulations. Written reports detailing the results of the inspections will be required. Schedule and perform AAR M-1003 Quality Assurance Audits. The Field Inspector must, within one year of hiring:

  • Obtain AAR Specification M-1003 Quality Assurance Auditor certification
  • Perform process and product Quality Assurance Audits of rail industry equipment/component manufacturing, repair and reconditioning facilities
  • Prepare audit reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree (related field) and two (2) years of railroad industry related, Mechanical Department and/or Hazardous Material Department experience. Six (6) years of railroad related, mechanical or hazardous material department experience may be substituted for the degree. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Five (5) years public speaking and/or instruction experience required. In addition, applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the following software: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Applicant must be able to wear O.S.H.A. Level "B" chemical protective clothing including full-face canister breathing mask, and pass a physical examination. Must have a base knowledge of CFR 49 Parts 171-180.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preferred candidate qualifications will include:

  • Bachelors Degree with six (6) years working knowledge in railroad related, Mechanical Department and/or Hazardous Material Department experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years instruction experience.
  • Possess AAR Specification M-1003 Quality Assurance Certification.
  • Experience in responding to hazmat emergencies and ability to repair leaking containers.
  • In depth knowledge of D.O.T. regulations and standards in accordance with AAR procedures.
